About us

DartLaw was formed as a result of the reductions in Legal Aid for Family Law starting in April 2013 and further compounded by the Children and Families Act 2014. Barristers chambers, or sets, are usually found in London and other major cities in the UK. Although we are situated in Dartford, most of our barristers are based in and around London and will travel to wherever clients need their services.

Barristers are traditionally specialists in a particular field of law who advise on whether clients have a case and appear on their behalf in Court. DartLaw aims to provide a cost-effective alternative for those who might once have been eligible for legal aid but can no longer obtain it and need help from a specialist family lawyer. By coming direct to barristers, clients can save money as well as find solutions to their family law problems. Whilst solicitors provide a complete legal service in conducting litigation and issuing Court proceedings on behalf of their clients, many people may feel that they are in need of legal advice and possible representation in Court but would be able to manage the administrative paperwork themselves.

DartLaw's Associates welcome briefs/instructions in the usual manner from professional clients who wish to source specialist advice or advocacy for matters upon which they have been instructed by their lay clients. Please contact us for further information.

Direct Access

Not everyone will feel comfortable with or capable of managing their own case but for those who do, we can provide the necessary advice and, where appropriate, a barrister to represent them in Court. Court appearances are extremely stressful for anyone without also having to present their case in front of a Judge who will expect the legal forms to be observed. This is where we aim to provide help and support to lay clients.

If you feel you could manage to prepare your own documents and lodge them with the Court, then Direct Access could be for you. Our practice team can assist you with how to go about this. Please feel free to ask any questions about the procedures you would need to follow to conduct your own litigation.
